The greatest wonder of all is that a human being magnifies the effect of the craftsmanship yet remains heedless of the Craftsman; that he wanders around the doors of creation, begging them for light, while in his hand is the key to a door that never closes—the door of the Creator, who never disappoints those who seek Him.
How astonishing is a heart that forgets the One who fashioned it, and seeks the approval of dust that possesses neither benefit nor harm for itself, then proceeds through life leaning on a mirage that dissolves at the first breath of wind. And how profound is the regret when a person looks around and sees only faded traces of a mercy that he could have received from its original source.
Indeed, the greatest heedlessness is that the Creator is forgotten in the crowd of creation, that the origin is neglected and the branch is taken as a support, and that the All-Powerful is replaced by one who possesses no power except what the Lord of all power has permitted him. And how beautiful is the moment of awakening when the heart returns to its Lord, and realizes that every beauty in the universe is but a shadow of His beauty, and every mercy in creation is but a drop from the ocean of His mercy.
So, blessed is the one who knows his Lord, and blessed is the one who does not forget the Creator in the crowd of creation, and blessed is the one who sets his direction toward the One who, when He gives, amazes, and when He withholds, is gracious, and when He calls His servant, says to him: “I am nearer to you than all that you sought besides Me.”
