His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Taqi al-Mudarrisi (may his shadow be extended) affirmed that the human intellect is the fundamental tool that God Almighty has bestowed upon humanity to attain truth. He explained that human error does not stem from any deficiency in this divine gift, but rather from the intellect being besieged by the veils of the ego and the dominance of desires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His Eminence discussed several causes of human error and how to address them. He clarified that God Almighty has not withheld from His servants the ability to perceive truth; rather, He has made access to it possible and available. However, the obstacles lie within the human being. He explained, \u201cOur hearts are veiled, our egos are overcome, and our desires prevail, as mentioned in the supplication\u2026 And because of the trials of this world, we may stray from the path if we do not liberate our minds from the sway of false motives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Grand Ayatollah al-Mudarrisi urged students of religious knowledge to familiarize themselves with and practice sound methods of thinking, explaining that critical thinking is the path to attaining profound truths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His Eminence pointed to a number of key principles that serve as a roadmap for students of religious knowledge. Among these is an awareness of the role of reason in religion, emphasizing that reason is the primary driving force that opens horizons of religious understanding and knowledge. He also clarified that transmitted knowledge cannot be separated from the dictates of sound reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His Eminence further indicated the necessity for those engaged in religious affairs to possess a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of life, and to avoid confining themselves to certain areas of knowledge without connecting them to the realities of changing circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
